One of the most effective and ecofriendly ways to reduce the mosquito and crop pest population near you is to install a bat house.  A small bat can eat hundreds of mosquitoes in a single hour. Besides mosquitoes, bats also eat beetles, flies, crickets, gnats, mayflies, wasps, moths, and other crop damaging pests.

However, there are huge differences in bat houses, and bats are picky about their homes.  Proper design and construction are extremely important. In fact, many bat houses are a waste of money because they are too short or narrow and bats will never choose them for their home.  If you want to control mosquitoes, be sure to put up one of our Certified Bat Houses that are all hand made in the USA.  They are definitely best for attracting bats and maintaining bat habitation. We only provide properly built bat houses that meet or exceed all 10 criteria as outlined by the Bat Conservation International (BCI) Bat Approved Bat House Certification Program.  Our bat houses attract bats!

Don’t believe all those negative myths about bats. Bats are extremely beneficial to humans and they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of nature.  A typical colony of bats will eat millions of insects and can protect farm crops and gardens from the costly attacks of beetles, moths, root worms, and other pests each summer. Bats are a tremendous help in reducing the use of toxic pesticides and in controlling the spread of the West-Nile virus.

Bats are not blind, in fact, they can see as well as you and me.  And bats are actually very clean animals. They do not get caught in people’s hair or chew through the attic of your house. Bats will not interfere with feeding backyard birds, and they will not be disrupted by pets or children.

By putting up a certified bat house you are helping with bat preservation by giving them a safe habitat. You will directly benefit from having fewer yard and garden pests, and will enjoy learning about bats and sharing your knowledge with your friends and family. Bat houses can also provide for great back yard entertainment.

Not all bat houses are built properly.  Short and stout or narrow houses tend to have little chance of attracting bats, where longer, wider houses usually are very successful.  But be careful because a lot of the bigger cheaper houses you might find on the internet have been made in China and the quality is definitely inferior.  Installing a cheaper bat house that won’t attract any bats is a waste of your time and your money.  When choosing a bat house, make sure it is certified by Bat Conservation International's Bat Approved Certification Program.  If you would like to build your own bat house you can purchase one of our kits or use our free bat house plans.

Shop our great selection of Certified Bat Houses now and help the environment near you by providing a great home for a colony of bats that can eat thousands of mosquitoes and other insects in a single night.
